This “box” is a resource for each individual living with an eating disorder during recovery. RED stands for recovery from an eating disorder.Each person’s recovery will be unique. The box is theirs to add things to that they personally find encouraging and helpful for recovery. When they feel at a standstill in their recovery journey this may be a time for them to make use of the RED box.We know that the focus on food and weight that goes with an eating disorder is the symptom not the cause of the disorder. The causes can be complex, however recovery can begin with the person wanting to regain what they have lost from their life due to the eating disorder. The focus for recovery is about, knowing yourself, accepting yourself and caring for yourself. Then living life to your full potential!The ‘starter kit’ provided includes cards with notes about skills for living that are useful in recovery. These include topics such as building self-esteem, dealing with uncomfortable feelings, building a support network, meditation techniques, and self-care ideas. Also included – a notebook for journaling, body care products and/ or other items to soothe and care for body and mind. Kate Foord has a background as an Occupational Therapist. She has lived experience of recovery from an eating disorder. She has also worked as a support worker for those wanting recovery from an eating disorder and their carers.
